In 2014, Kate Spade introduced a new supplier: the artisans of Masoro, a group of 150 women from Masoro, Rwanda. The purpose for the partnership with these talented Rwandan women was to establish the first group in a new corporate social responsibility program and economic model called “on purpose.”
On purpose is different from non-profit organizations, in the sense that on purpose treats the artisans of Masoro as a manufacturing partner, where each highly trained artisan earns a monthly salary, paid vacation, maternity leave, health care and Rwandan national social security benefits.

Kate Spade’s newest on purpose butterfly beaded clutch ($198), was created with 5,000 beads in just three days crafting time, is just one of the many new accessories Kate Spade and the artisans of masoro have introduced that help to create economic stability, self-sufficiency, and confidence for the future for the women of the on purpose partnership.
Prices of the on purpose collection range from $28 to $128 and include accessories such as bangles, scarves, and totes. View the complete on purpose collection here and find out more on the partnership here.

In 2008, I launched AskMissA.com which grew from my personal blog into a site with 700 writers, covering the intersection of charity & lifestyle in 20 U.S. cities. With Charity + Life, I am going back to a personal blog where I can share my favorite things, and continue to shine a light on nonprofits, and cause marketing campaigns to inspire others to give as they live.
