Liberty HealthShare is transforming American healthcare through the power of prayer and being there for its members. Picture a healthcare community where prayer meets practical support, and managing medical costs feels less like navigating red tape and more like joining hands with family. This is the dynamic of Liberty HealthShare.

With its roots firmly planted in Christian principles, this nonprofit organization nurtures a sense of family and faith while empowering members to manage their healthcare costs.

Liberty HealthShare: A Community Beyond Coverage

The organization weaves faith through every aspect of its operations. “We encourage prayer, and as a matter of fact, even if it’s not with one of our call center reps, we have a list that is distributed internally every Friday of prayer requests from our members,” Liberty HealthShare Chief Executive Officer Dorsey Morrow informs. “It’s one of those times during the day you just stop, you read through it, and then we pray over it. Whether it’s with the member or for the member, we are about prayer.”

Traditional insurance often leaves patients feeling like numbers. Liberty HealthShare takes a different approach. “Members are not left to figure things out on their own,” Morrow states. “Unlike insurance, where you sign up and ‘All right, there you go. Good luck.’ You can expect from us a lot of communication, a lot of resources.”

Rising healthcare costs concern many Americans. Liberty HealthShare tackles this through careful planning and negotiation. “We don’t use just one or two vendors to help us negotiate with medical providers on behalf of our members,” Morrow says. “We’ve got three or four various vendors, and each of them has a very specific task and helps us identify problem areas.”

The organization studies current and historical sharing patterns monthly while forecasting trends. This data-driven approach helps maintain stable contribution amounts for members.

Compassion Creates Real Solutions

Liberty HealthShare’s commitment to member care shows through practical problem-solving.

Karen Langston shared her experience of becoming a Liberty HealthShare member on libertyhealthshare.org.

“My husband had to have shoulder replacement surgery,” Langston revealed. “It wasn’t until that time that I realized how powerful our membership with Liberty HealthShare was. Everyone we talked to was so helpful. They helped us through the process and reduced our stress level with their level of professionalism and compassionate communication. It was a breeze and helped us keep our sanity.”

Langston added that she “Did not realize how successful the ministry could be in negotiating bills for a better rate. The repricing process has saved us a lot of money.”

Warren Pfohl is another Liberty HealthShare member who has had a positive experience. He said he and his wife, Brenda, have been members of Liberty HealthShare since 2019.

“We were looking for an alternative to health insurance. I had retired early, and we were paying an exorbitant amount of money. It almost became a moral quandary for us that we’re spending all this money on health insurance,” Pfohl said in a blog post on libertyhealthshare.org.

“We began to explore other options, and when we found Liberty HealthShare we almost immediately knew that we wanted to be a part of the sharing community.”

Building Community Through Technology

Members connect through digital tools while maintaining personal relationships. “Members can sign in through their sharing portal. They can go to their portal to see who their contributions have helped through their membership,” Morrow notes. “We encourage them to submit prayers, and we try to share that out and encourage our members to pray for others.”

Morrow believes healthcare sharing ministries offer valuable lessons about consumer engagement. “Taking responsibility for our own healthcare” remains crucial, he explains. “America basically has turned financing healthcare and taking responsibility for their healthcare on autopilot. They have minimal engagement.”

He encourages patients to ask questions. “A huge part of why it has gotten so out of control on costs,” Morrow explains. “If we were to all start taking an active part of understanding what the service is being delivered, [and asking] ‘Doc, why are you doing that?’ ‘Why do we need to do this?’ ‘What’s that going to cost?’”

Morrow adds that communication is crucial when it comes to healthcare.

“Understanding and challenging some of the decisions that are being made, including what they’re being charged and why I think we can make a significant difference in our healthcare system,” Morrow shares.

The organization’s focus remains clear — serving members while maintaining financial transparency. “Our focus at Liberty is on our members,” Morrow declares. “We are here to help facilitate.”

Getting that personalized help continues to resonate with Liberty HealthShare’s members. “Liberty HealthShare continues to grow and add other resources,” Pfohl added. “If you have an ear infection and you don’t want to run into the doctor or wait, you can go online and speak with a doctor through DialCare. They can write you a prescription. They have mental healthcare for people who are struggling with mental challenges. There are a lot of resources that will enable you to care for your family and medical needs.”
