From One Hand to AnOTHER: Pharrell’s Foundation

If you’ve heard about Madonna’s big fall in Armani, then whether you know it or not, you’ve been in on the Brit Awards conversation. The Brits is the British Phonographic Industry‘s annual award show rewarding the biggest, brightest, and best in popular music. So to speak, the Brit’s are a British equivalent of the Grammys. The recent award show took place February 25, 2015 at London’s O2, and American producer, singer, and rapper, Pharrell Williams took home the award for International Male Solo Artist.

In the category of International Male Solo Artist, Pharrell faced stiff competition including Beck, Hozier (whose Grammy performance with Annie Lennox is still being talked about all over the internet), Jack White, and John Legend (who won along with Common for Best Original Song at the 2015 Oscars). Williams’ latest projects include contributing songs to the live action Sponge Bob movie soundtrack, including Squeeze Me, which was recorded with his N.E.R.D band mates Chad Hugo, and Shay Haley, and  also collaborating with Lionel Richie for The Voice in his quest to find what he described to Access Hollywood as “… people who sing their story.”, working with country music trio The Band Perry, as was revealed in Rolling Stone, and producing Snoop Dogg’s latest album Bush. Never one to focus all of his creative energies in one place, Pharrell has also collaborated with adidas Originals on the Supercolor sneaker pack, a 50 shoe collection which will debut March 27th, and Pharrell has recently covered GQ, yet again.

Somehow, he’s also found the time to keep his foundation From One Hand to AnOTHER running and making a difference in the life of youth. FOHTA has a mission of changing “the world one kid at a time by providing them the tools and resources to meet their unique potential.”

“Our organization, From One Hand to Another, is committed to bringing kids experiences that ignite their passions, challenge their minds and prepare them for success.” -Pharrell

From One Hand to AnOther began donating school supplies to the Virginia Beach neighborhood Williams grew up in, and has continued to do so each fall since. Presumably meaning the Virginia Beach youth will see school supplies courtesy of the donation program in the coming school year as well. The foundation previously held a Summer of Innovation camp alongside NASA as a part of President Obama’s STEM initiative Educate to Innovate

We’re excited to follow Pharrell’s progress in the coming year as a creative erudite, and public-spirited being! Are you?

In 2008, I launched AskMissA.com which grew from my personal blog into a site with 700 writers, covering the intersection of charity & lifestyle in 20 U.S. cities. With Charity + Life, I am going back to a personal blog where I can share my favorite things, and continue to shine a light on nonprofits, and cause marketing campaigns to inspire others to give as they live.
