Recap: 2015 Greater Washington Region Heart Ball
This past Saturday, February 28, 2015 at The Mandarin Oriental, The 17th Annual Heart Ball celebrated Joie de Vivre, the joy of life, with an elegant evening full of dancing, dining, a live and silent auction, and several special presentations. The Heart Ball is one of the Greater Washington Region’s most grand black-tie events with over 500 of the area’s most influential medical, corporate, and community leaders in attendance to honor the American Heart Association and American Heart Month.
Some of this year’s dignified guests included Vice Chair of the Clinton Foundation Chelsea Clinton; Heart Ball Chair Kay Kapoor President, AT&T Government Solutions; Open Your Heart Chair Fred V. McNair, IV, McNair & Company, Inc.; Chair of the AHA GWR Board of Directors, Cheryl Campbell; President of the AHA GWR Board of Directors, Dr. Todd Villines; and Auction Chairs Ahmad Hajj and Sogand Zamani. Other noted guests included Heart Heroes Lieutenant General Patricia Horoho, Surgeon General of the US Army, Dr. William C. Devries, Dr. Fred C. Lough, and survivor honorees – the Singh Family.
Guests mingled, drank cocktails, and nibbled on passed h’ordeuvres while browsing through the spectacular silent auction items including my personal favorite, a trip to France including a three-night stay in a chateau in Bordeaux, private wine-tasting and tour, a two-night stay in a luxury boutique hotel and two round-trip business elite tickets. Talk about joie de vivre!
The exquisite event continued in the main ballroom where guests dined, danced, and enjoyed the heartfelt speeches from notable guests. PULSE DC kicked off Heart After Dark where guests continued the celebration well into the early morning hours. PULSE is the American Heart Association’s young professional group supporting the AHA mission of building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. PULSE is a group of local, young professionals in Washington, DC striving to engage friends and coworkers to educate, inspire, and develop the habit of philanthropy dedicated to changing the health of a new generation.
Proceeds raised at the Heart Ball go directly towards lifesaving cardiovascular research as well as community outreach and education programs. The Heart Ball committee hopes to have raised $1.6 million this year with the help of all the generous attendees and local corporate sponsors including CGI, AT&T, CSC, KPMG, ANYBILL, and Juniper Networks.
