Cash And Rocket: Fashion Brands Go On Tour To Help Women And Children Globally
High fashion and road trips go together like mixed prints; at first glance, you think they’d clash but after combining the two, you feel the magic. Welcome to Cash and Rocket, which was created to bring fashion and luxury brands together in order to make a difference to global issues; this empowering, female tour supports and helps women and children in third world countries. Cash & Rocket was founded by Julie Brangstrup in 2011, with a vision to create a platform for luxury global brands to promote their products in innovative ways, with a particular focus on the female consumer.
Valentino co-designer, Maria Grazia Chiuri explains how much the event means to her, “As a woman and mother, I am very happy to be able to help other women and children. I am profoundly convinced that it’s potential to give them an opportunity for development and education, which gives me a chance to give back what I have received.”
It being high fashion and all, the ladies did it tres chic. Thirty-five vintage sports cars (we’re talkin’ Bentleys, Maseratis, and the like) with models, designers, business women, and actresses at the wheel caravaned from Venice, Italy to Geneva, Switzerland to Paris, France ending in London, England. The glitterati were out on a mission, taking four full days to complete the journey. Margherita Missoni, Patricia Arquette, Selita Ebanks, and Christina Hendricks are just a few names on board with the project, to support Shine on Sierra Leone, OrphanAid Africa, and Sumbandila, each charity focusing on encouraging the support and growth of African women and children.
Model/Actress Selita Ebanks sums it up, “It’s definitely a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. It’s this type of event that revolutionizes fundraising, as both the donor and the done are transformed”. No good deed goes unappreciated. The end of each day brought a new country to call home and an evening of dinner and champagne to cheers the miles logged and lives helped.
