Met Gala 2014 Most Charitable And Stylish
The Met Ball, an annual fundraiser for the Anna Wintour Costume Institute is famous for the amazing red carpet looks presented by celebrities each year. This year’s theme was “White Tie and Decorations”. Here are a few of my favorites:
Blake Lively was wearing this sequined champagne colored Gucci dress. This is by far one of my favorite red carpet looks yet at the gala, this dress hugs her perfectly and has a long train that trailed her while walking the carpet. She paired this dress with round red earrings, a bold dark red ring (to match hubby Ryan Reynolds’ tie,) a fresh face of make-up and beautiful bombshell curls styled to one side of her head. The perfect look, she nailed it! Blake is also a supporter of Oxfam’s Samalia Disaster Fund, and Gucci’s Chime For Change Campaign.
There is no doubt in the world that Beyoncé always looks fierce on the red carpet, and this event was no exception. Queen B looked absolutely ravishing at the Gala wearing a black Givenchy gown. This gown showed off some of Beyoncé’s best assets while making her look very classy and elegant. This dress is stunning, edgy, and unique, but my favorite part of her look was the sheer veil she added, dangling earings and bold dark red lip, which really complimented the dress altogether very nicely. Beyonce has also taken her part in several charity events to help others such as Goodwill Charity, Gucci’s Chime for Change, was named the official face of the CFDA and also opened a Cosmetology Center at the Brooklyn Phoenix House which she pledged to donate over $100, 000 annually.
Anne Hathaway has been previously named one of the best dressed stars to ever attend the Met Gala, and this year she certainly kept her title. This year Anne definitely revoked the ‘no red on the red carpet’ rule with this red bustier and this long skirt by Calvin Klein. Anne’s sleek hairstyle with a straight bang and sparkling earrings really emphasized the elegancy of her outfit. Simple and chic… Anne never disappoints! Anne is a firm believer in helping others and has been a supporter to several non-profit organizations and charities such as The Trevor Project, Oxfam, the Naked Heart Foundation and the Human Rights Campaign.
Rihanna, one of the biggest fashionista’s in Hollywood today, looked amazing on the carpet in all white. Rihanna was wearing a blinging turtleneck crop top with long sleeves and a floor length skirt by Stella McCartney. In order to show off the sparkling turtleneck Rihanna sported beach waves in a top-of-the-head updo. Her overall look was fresh and modern… everyone loves an all-white ensemble! Rihanna is also the founder of the Believe Foundation to help terminally sick children, and is a supporter of many many charities like Stand Up To Cancer, the Grammy Foundation, UNICEF,
and is a part of the MAC Viva Glam Campaign.
Emma Stone wore a Thakoon pink ensemble paired with a pair of Miu Miu heels. Honestly one of my favorite looks, it’s not too complex and I envy the way she paired the two shades of pink. It was very refreshing to see some color at the Gala rather than blacks, whites and creams. Emma’s bright spring colors and beautiful side braid gave a Spring/Summer feel to the carpet… Well done Emma! Emma Stone has a long history of charity work that includes just recently co-hosting the EIF Revlon Run/Walk, is a supporter of the Worldwide Orphans Foundation, Stand Up 2 Cancer and is an ambassador of Gilda’s Club New York City.
Since Lupita Nyong’o first set her foot on the red carpet in Hollywood she has been named one of the best dressed stars in the business. She is known for her bold, elegant and fun fashion choices which everyone seems to love and almost always brings her A-game when it comes to big events. For the Gala, Lupita took daring initiative to actually use the theme in a playful manner. She again wore Prada, but this time her dress was much more unique for it was an emerald net dress with beads, crystal chandelier drops and feathers flowing down the sides of the dress to the bottom. She wore this dress with a military suede heel, a headband piece and wore purple shadow over and under her eye. I personally think that this was the most fearless look at the Gala and that Lupita is the one and only person who would’ve been able to pull this off. She wore this look with pride and confidence on the carpet… You go girl! Other than being one of the biggest fashionistas of our time, Lupita also supports a fair amount of charities and non-profit organizations such as the Global Campaign to defeat AIDS charity, the Mondetta Charity Foundation, and has currently been visiting some charity projects in Africa.
Suki Waterhouse definitely turned heads on the red carpet wearing this cappuccino-pink frilly gown by Burberry. The dress by itself would look a bit frumpy on anyone else, but this model wore it so beautifully, and pairing it with a red lip tied the whole ensemble together. I love this dress because it’s not the typical body-fitting dress that you see on the red carpet, but it’s texturized, more daring and very fun. I think Suki did a wonderful job representing this dress. Suki Waterhouse has previously been involved with charity work such as going ‘bearfaced’ for the BBC Children In Need Campaign and modeling for the SS14 Campaign in which 30% of sales on the ‘Pepto Bismol’ (created for Target’s Breast Cancer) shoe is donated to charity.
Joan Smalls looked flawless on the red carpet wearing a cappuccino colored Vera Wang dress. The dress is absolutely beautiful but what popped out to me was that she paired it with a dark purple lip and a loose side braid. Bold bright lips are really in this season, as long as you wear it with the appropriate hairstyle and outfit, it’ll look great. Her overall look really emphasizes her model-esque height and is fancy, fun and perfect for this event. Besides Joan’s excellent fashion sense, she is also involved with a non-profit organization called Project Sunshine, that helps children with their medical needs.
Emmy Rossum wore a bright yellow strapless Carolina Herrera gown with a beautiful floral design printed on it. I love this dress because it fit Emmy so well and it added some color and print to the red carpet. She paired this gorgeous dress with a sleek updo and a red-lip to match her red nails. Alongside Emma Stone, Emmy also brought a Spring/Summery feel to the carpet. Loved it! Rossum also has a long history of supporting charities and non-profit organizations such as: The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) Action Fund, Global Green USA, is an abassador for YouthAIDS and is the official spokesperson for PiNKiTUDE.
In all honesty I don’t think that Victoria Beckham has ever disappointed me on the red carpet. At the Met Gala, Victoria was wearing a strapless crop top dress at floor length from her signature pre-fall 2014 collection. Her white dress fit her petite figure very nicely, and her accessories and hair were spot on to make the entire look very chic and feminine. Seriously, you could put Victoria in a paper-bag and she would still be on the best-dressed list. As a bonus her white dress matched husband David Beckham’s Ralph Lauren blazer… (They’re like a real life Barbie and Ken!) Victoria Beckham is one of the philanthropist queens, and has supported several charities and non-profit organizations such as: UNICEF, Comic Relief, Red Cross, and is a designer for a charity collection where all proceeds go towards the BORNFREE campaign.
