SAME Cafe In Denver Serves 100,000th Meal
“Everyone deserves the chance to eat healthy food while being treated with dignity,” says the SAME Café. Often we can take for granted the ability to walk into a restaurant, be served, eat well, and share in laughter and conversation. The SAME Cafe is here to remind us that food and community go hand-in-hand.
The SAME Café was founded in 2006 and this past month they served their 100,000th meal. This is an amazing feat for a place with such humble beginnings. SAME Café was formed out a dream to feed everyone, regardless of ability to pay. It was Denver’s first non-profit restaurant born from the vision of Brad and Libby Birky. They were concerned about the issue of hunger among so many living in the United States and wanted to provide a place that would not only be a source of good food, but also a place for community growth.
The SAME Cafe strives to be sustainable to both the community and the environment, two things that often go hand-in-hand. As a result the SAME Café purchases 90% of its food from local organic sources. They buy from places such as the Growhaus, Granta Farms, Ela Farms, and Haystack Mountain.
The best way to support this worthwhile organization is to simply eat there for lunch! There is no easier way to help insure everyone in Denver as access to healthy food, community, and a place to gather and share a meal.
