Charitable And Stylish Men We Love: Chris Brown

For a while there, it seemed like every bit of press about Chris Brown was negative, regardless of what the article, tweet or report was about. However, the young musician has been steadily cleaning up his image and turning that bad press into fuel for his redemption. Last year, he started his own charity organization, Symphonic Love Foundation, which supports and creates arts programs for youth while encouraging every day public service, respect and kindness. Symphonic Love believes in the capacity of love and art to change the world.

Courage For Kids, an organization started by Miss A Publisher & Editor-in-Chief, Andrea Rodgers, recently received a generous donation from Chris Brown and his Symphonic Love Foundation to support their work with at-risk children in Washington, DC.  This donation will support the nonprofit’s GIVE BACK-pack Initiative, which provides children in early childhood education programs at Bright Beginnings and CentroNia with backpacks filled with school supplies to take with them when they enter Kindergarten.
The Symphonic Love Foundation and Courage for Kids are both passionate about supporting youth.  Chris Brown has a long-standing commitment to nonprofit work. Indeed, giving back to those less fortunate was instilled in him by his mother, Joyce, who served as Director of Tappahannock Children’s Center for 24 years. At the age of 17, Brown donated $50,000 from his “Up Close and Personal Tour” to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

It should be safe to say that the bad press about Chris Brown can officially come to an end. The next time someone decides to chastise you for rocking out to his latest hit, just remind them that not only did he turn his life around, but he began a movement that repels the very thing that got him into trouble in the first place and that is why he is this week’s charitable and stylish man we love. Come back next week to find out who is being charitable all while keeping a smile on his handsome face.

In 2008, I launched AskMissA.com which grew from my personal blog into a site with 700 writers, covering the intersection of charity & lifestyle in 20 U.S. cities. With Charity + Life, I am going back to a personal blog where I can share my favorite things, and continue to shine a light on nonprofits, and cause marketing campaigns to inspire others to give as they live.
