Recap: Move This World Spring Fling At The Bowery Hotel In New York
On Friday, May 3, I had the privilege of attending Move This World Spring Fling at The Bowery Hotel. Move This World is a global non-profit organization started by Sara Potler LaHayne whose mission engages young people through dance and creative movement. Combining exercise with an innovative curriculum, Move This World has been able to promote peace in over 8,500 youth in 15 cities on four continents.
The night was filled with music, cocktails and a silent auction full of unique items. I began the night meeting with a few of the Young Trustees, including Sam Handler and Zaneta Clark. Their enthusiasm and passion for the event, as well as the mission, was inspiring. After some time spent mingling I tried my first themed cocktail, a Move The People Punch. Made with a mix of sponsored brands and pressed cucumber, the drink was refreshing and delicious. Later, I was able to try a Shakers Julep, minty and sweet, and a Move This World Paloma, tasty, but as someone who isn’t a fan of grapefruit, I have to say this wasn’t my absolute favorite.
DJ Alex Cecil kept the night alive and the guests moving with a set that included a variety of genres, from some old-school rap from Biggie to modern dance music from The Bingo Players.
Move This World also provided a silent auction, giving guests the chance to bid on packages throughout the night. As a first-time silent auction goer, I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed being a part of it. There were glam bag gift sets, vacations in Montauk, sports memorabilia, gift certificates, clothing and classes, to name just a few items. Each set was bid on multiple times and bidders were excited to see if their bid was the winner.
All in all, the event was a success. The music was enjoyable, light but energizing, the atmosphere was young and alive, and the auction went great! Move This World is definitely an organization to keep your eye on!
