Washington Ballet Spring Gala 2013: Hemingway in Paris Ball
The Washington Ballet (TWB) celebrates the world premiere of Septime Webre’s Hemingway: The Sun Also Rises with The Hemingway in Paris Ball. One of DC’s premier fundraising events, the annual gala celebrates The Washington Ballet’s deep ties with the community and raises critical funds for the Ballet’s training and outreach programs. The Hemingway in Paris Ball will be chaired by Jackie Clegg Dodd and Senator Chris Dodd with honorary chair Mariel Hemingway and The Board of Directors of the Washington Ballet.
Upon arrival, guests will be treated to a Jack Rose – the classic drink featured in Ernest Hemingway’s novel, The Sun Also Rises. During the evening, there will be a special appearance by Hemingway cocktail aficionado Philip Greene, author of To Have and Have Another: A Hemingway Cocktail Companion.
Guests will mingle among the beautiful décor created by Syzygy Events International and floral designs by Suzanne Codi. As the night progresses, they will dine upon delicacies provided by Susan Gage Caterers, who have been lauded by The Washington Post food critic, Tom Sietsema. Guests will enjoy performances by The Washington Ballet’s professional dancers and students of TWB@THEARC, and will later join in for some dancing themselves as DJ Pitch One gets everyone up out of their seats.
Proceeds from The Hemingway in Paris Ball fund TWB’s Community Engagement programs: The Washington Ballet@THEARC, DanceDC, and Excel! TWB@THEARC is a satellite campus of The Washington School of Ballet (TWSB) located in Southeast DC. To ensure access for all, TWB offers scholarship and tuition on a sliding scale, based on family income. DanceDC is an interdisciplinary dance program that reaches 500 District of Columbia Public School children annually. DanceDC encourages creativity and self-esteem through dance education. The Excel! scholarship program provides full scholarships for talented DanceDC students to study classical ballet at TWSB and attend subsidized performances of The Nutcracker and other The Washington Ballet family events.
