Mrs. Texas 2012 Kayla Wharton Prepares For Mrs. America Pageant
January 19-21, married women from all over the state of Texas converged on Corsicana to compete in the Mrs. Texas pageant at the historical Palace Theatre.
Upon arriving, contestants had a briefing and went right into photo shoost and downstairs to a dinner party held in their honor at the Hilton Garden Inn. Friday found them at the theatre bright and early, rehearsing the opening number and pageant run through with a break for a luncheon hosted at the Corsicana Country Club. Fourth time competitor, Mrs. Frisco’s Dawn Neufeld headed up a karaoke night at a local coffee house before ladies turned in to rest up for an early morning of preparing for pageant day. Interviews count for 50% of a contestants total score and begin first thing in the morning. Another run through of pageant number and its show time!
While everyone is familiar with the MISS Texas/America pageant system, many haven’t heard of the pageant for married women. Mrs. America celebrates the achievements, poise, and personality of today’s married women. The competition seeks married women who are involved in their communities, who want to make a difference and who are excited about celebrating marriage. Mrs. America delegates are judged on their communication skills, successes, composure and appearance.
Kayla Wharton won Mrs. Dallas-Forth Worth and Mrs. Texas 2012 and will compete in three categories for the Mrs. America title: personal interview, swimsuit and evening gown. The Mrs. America Pageant will be held August 23-29 in Tucson, Arizona and will be on U-Stream. Texas hasn’t had a Mrs. America winner since Wendy Lewis won the title in 1994. Like Miss Texas title holders, Mrs. Texas contestants have a platform and Kayla’s is in honor of her mothers battle with breast cancer, “Perfectly Pink” . Kayla’s message to us all is to “Develop an attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better.”
Please support the Mrs. Texas/America pageant, these brave women are doing great things in their communities. Tune into U-Stream on August 29 and send well wishes to our own Mrs. Texas, Kayla Wharton!
