Trendy Accessories For Summer 2012
Summer is all about having fun and that includes with your accessories. Strong metals and in-your-face neons are in for the season as this list goes to show. Whether you’re in the mood to splurge on new staple accessories or have just been bitten by the creative bug and want to make your own custom pieces, there’s a little something for everyone.
THE CHAIN HALO HEADPIECE
If there’s one accessory that’ll crown you the Goddess of Summer, it’s the chain halo. This fashion accessory is an update on the bohemian, hippie-inspired headpieces of the 70s and is an easy way to dress up your effortless beach waves. One celebrity who loves herself a chain halo is socialite turned designer, Nicole Richie. Her line House of Harlow 1960 has a collection of handmade chain headpieces ($110-485). ASOS multi chain crown headband ($18.18) has a five-strand halo option, but if you’re more of a DIY kind of girl, watch Bella Mishella’s video on how to make your own.
THE BIB NECKLACE
The bib necklace is just right to embellish a bare décolletage or plain white tee. It’s a statement piece all on its own and needs no help from other accessories. You can adorn your sleeveless or cut-out shoulder button downs with a bib necklace for a fashionista-approved look. The style options are endless from the lacquered Forever 21 colorblocked bib necklace ($9.80) to the bejeweled Kate Spade New York Mulholland Drive bib necklace ($278).
EMBELLISHED HOOP EARRINGS
The hoop earring gets a makeover this summer, and we’re pulling out the spikes and rhinestone-encrusted beads/spacers! They’ve been dubbed the “Basketball Wives earrings” since becoming popularized by the feisty and fashionable ladies of the VH1 reality show. Under the sun, these earrings are the perfect accessory to wear with a bold-print maxi dress (or sheer cover up) and stylish fedora hat. Shop Chameleon has a nice selection of hoops ($16.99-34.99) that are in high demand. AllEarzJewelry supplies hoop earrings, spikes, and beads so you can personalize the earrings to your taste.
THE OVERSIZED WATCH
The watch is no longer just for telling time so why not go oversized? Metal banded and rhinestone detailed, the big face watch is a fun and feminine accessory for the summer. Fashion designer Michael Kors has a beloved line of watches ($160-395) that is a fashion world favorite. Not only is it great on its own, it’s a wonderful layering piece as well. Wear one and you can look fashion-forward even while playing in the water. (Yay for water resistance!) You’ll look stylish with these neon-colored and animal-print faced options from ASOS ($36.36) and Breda ($37) too.
THE KNUCKLE RING
What trend setter doesn’t love a bold, statement ring? Nothing says summer-stylish like a knuckle ring paired with a neon-colored (yes, it’s back in a major way summer 2012) manicure – finger candy galore. Wear the armor knuckle ring ($80) from Low Luv x Erin Wasson like starlet/singer Vanessa Hudgens, look swanky in a Pamela Love double cage ring with hinge ($525), or go double-finger with Mod Cloth‘s mountain top hop ring ($11.99).
Bangles and summer go arm in arm (no pun intended). A wrist covered in stacked multicolored beaded bangles or just one cuff with distinctly placed beads in an intricate pattern is an easy way to add color to a neutral outfit. Layer with the gold-plated beaded bangle set ($54) by Adia Kibur and Vanessa Mooney‘s glass beaded 3 bangle set ($84), or stand out with the bright Charlotte Russe seed bead tribal bangle ($7.50).
THE BODY CHAIN
Spending a lot of time poolside in a two piece this summer? A bikini is the perfect ensemble to show off the body chain. Style queen and entertainer Rihanna lives in her $2,315 Jacquie Aiche 14K rose gold with white diamond filigree body chain in the warm months. For a less expensive (but just as flirty and season-trendy) option, try Topshop’s Simple Cross Body Chain ($30) or the Tassel Body Ornament ($92.40) by Jen Shon.
