FEED's Lauren Bush and Designer Judith Leiber Debut Charity Handbag

The stylish clutch worn by model and designer Lauren Bush during the 2010 Accessories Council ACE Awards will be available for purchase on May 5 in NYC. The bag, a collaborative effort between Bush and accessories designer du jour Judith Leiber, will help raise funds for the FEED Foundation.

Lauren Bush and Miss A Publisher, Andrea Rodgers

For almost three years, the FEED Foundation has worked with the United Nations World Food Program to provide healthy meals to impoverished children living in 75 different countries. Bush, the granddaughter of George H. W. Bush and fiancée of David Lauren, founded FEED while studying anthropology at Princeton University. To date, the organization has helped provide more than 50 million meals to schools in developing countries.
Bush brought popularity to FEED by sporting the foundation’s now-iconic burlap totes to major social events. The bags, 100% organic, were instrumental in helping to achieve the mission of FEED. For instance, the purchase of a $45 tote can provide school meals to 25 children, or nutrients for one child for an entire year.
Together, Leiber and Bush created an evening-ready bag that women would love to take on a red carpet. Bush credits her newfound design partner as being the “industry standard” for evening handbags — referring to Leiber’s ubiquitous beaded crystal minaudières that have become a staple for leading actresses and music icons.
The clutch itself will be sold in both silver and gold metallic linen, with the phrase “FEED 1000” emblazoned on the back — a reference to the 1,000 school meals each handbag sale will generate. Leiber’s signature bejeweled embellishments will adorn an otherwise simple snap-closure front. The bag will sell for $495, with half of the proceeds benefitting the FEED Foundation.

FEED Clutch

Bush will launch the clutch during a Mother’s Day event held at Bergdorf Goodman on May 6, with an estimated 200 units being available in the department store. It will also be available for purchase at Judith Leiber stores and online at www.judithleiber.com.

In 2008, I launched AskMissA.com which grew from my personal blog into a site with 700 writers, covering the intersection of charity & lifestyle in 20 U.S. cities. With Charity + Life, I am going back to a personal blog where I can share my favorite things, and continue to shine a light on nonprofits, and cause marketing campaigns to inspire others to give as they live.
