Barkley Square on Fox5 with Holly Morris Discussing DC’s Week for the Animals
I spent the morning at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, preparing for the live taping with Fox 5’s Holly Morris. Between live shots, I spent time in the “cat room”. There are so many kittens and cats that need to be adopted. These cats are so sweet, they meow’d at me as I walked by and rubbed up on their cage so that I would pet them. I fell in love with one long haired black kitten with tuxedo markings named “Stuart”. He’s precious, but I don’t think Scarlett or Lucky would be happy if I took in another pet.
I also met a very nice family that came into the shelter. They rescued a cat that had been run over by a lawn mower and was missing its ears. If that wasn’t enough, they also rescued a 4 month old puppy who had been kicked so hard by its owner that its leg couldn’t be rescued and had to be amputated. There are animals who were given up late in life, and others that have been given up due to military deployment or home foreclosure. If you are in the market for a pet, please adopt. I also learned today that Prince George’s County only gives pets about a week, before the animals are put down. It’s horrible. I really want to get involved with that shelter and make it a “no kill shelter”. I urge everyone to spay and neuter their pet, and get involved in supporting our area’s shelters!
Take a look at Barkley Square Dog Bakery, Karing by Kristina, Chios Pet Grooming and FidoJournalism on Fox5 with Holly Morris! These businesses came together for “Diamonds in the Ruff Project” to give 3 lucky dogs “Adopt Me Makeovers”. These dogs from the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria will make their public “Reveal” at Del Ray Business Association’s First Thursday this Thursday, June 4th on the patio at Barkley Square!
June’s First Thursday has the theme “Dog Days of Del Ray”. The Diamonds in the Ruff Project and Del Ray’s First Thursday tribute to dogs is part of Washington, DC’s first ever Week for the Animals. There are events going on all over town to support animals in our community.
I hope you’ll bring your dog, or come out and visit the dogs from AWLA at the Yappy Hour on Thursday!
