FAIR Fund’s Annual Benefit: “Pearls of Purpose” on May 7th

FAIR Fund works internationally to engage youth, especially young women, in civil society in the areas of anti-human trafficking, domestic violence and sexual assault prevention, and the development of youth capacity-building programs. FAIR Fund believes that it is vital to mobilize and support youth in grassroots civic activism to effect positive social change; all programs are conceptualized and implemented with local partners in order to achieve empowering and sustainable results.

This Thursday, May 7th, FAIR Fund is hosting their annual benefit, “Pearls of Purpose” at 7:00 p.m. at The Dacor Bacon House, 1801 F Street, NW, Washington, DC 20006.  FAIR Fund’s 3rd annual gala, Pearls of Purpose, celebrates the creativity and strength of each young woman nurtured by FAIR Fund’s circle of support, who is now truly leading a life safer from human trafficking, exploitation, and sexual assault.

At Pearls of Purpose, Congresswoman Shelia Jackson-Lee will be honored with the first annual Pearl Award for her work in assisting trafficked and stateless women and children. Special remarks will be made by Kenneth B. Morris, Jr., President and Founder of the Frederick Douglas Family Foundation.

At Pearls of Purpose, you will have a chance to purchase their hand-crafted jewelry as part of our silent auction. Proceeds from the sale of their jewelry supports a young women’s transition from victim to survivor. The jewelry pieces are created as part of art therapy and income generation program for survivors and high risk girls called JewelGirls. These pieces are created by girls in Washington, DC, Serbia, and Russia and make great Mothers Day and graduation gifts.

Their live auction, led by Brandis Griffith of WJLA ABC-7, will feature high quality items, such as jewelry, gift certificates and handbags from our generous sponsors, including Christian DIOR, Cartier, the Embassy of Japan, Napoleon’s Bistro and Lounge, Anne Welsh Salon, and Betsy Johnson.

The evening will also include artisan chocolates created by Biagio and fine wines from the embassies of Cyprus,Algeria, Lichtenstein, and Morocco.

Most importantly, they will be raising funds and awareness for the young women and children survivors of human trafficking that find support from FAIR Fund’s programs in D.C., Eastern Europe, East Africa, and beyond.
