I met Kristina Robertson back in 2005 when I was looking for a vendor to provide outfits for the dogs participating in Fashion for Paws. She is the dynamic entrepeneur behind Barkley Square Dog Bakery & Boutique and Karing for Kristina, one of the first pet sitting businesses in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. I have so much admiration for Kristina’s professional success, and also her commitment to giving back to the community. She is an active member of the Alexandria, VA, Chamber of Commerce, Alexandria City Visitors Association (ACVA), and is a board member of the King Street Metro Enterprise Team (KSMET), through which she works to enhance the pet friendly atmosphere of the community.

Kristina has been such a great friend and has been so supportive of my various fundraising efforts. Over the years, she made special outfits for my dog Gatsby, and when I lost Gatsby on my birthday, August 1st, Kristina reached out to me to let me know she was making a donation to the Alexandria Rescue League in Gatsby’s honor.

So it’s with pleasure that I invite you to join me and my new Maltese puppy “Scarlett” on the last day of summer for a wine and doggie treat tasting provided by Barkley Square Dog Bakery and Pet Boutique, Planet Wine, Artfully ChocolateKingsbury Chocolates and St. Elmo’s. All proceeds benefit The Washington Humane Society.

When: Saturday, September 20th from 4 to 7 pm

Where: Barkley Square, 2006 Mt. Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, VA

Ticket: For tickets, call Barkley Square at 703-548-3644. Tickets are $25 for humans $15 for dogs. On the day of the event, prices will be $30 for humans and $20 for dogs.

All proceeds benefit The Washington Humane Society.

In 2008, I launched AskMissA.com which grew from my personal blog into a site with 700 writers, covering the intersection of charity & lifestyle in 20 U.S. cities. With Charity + Life, I am going back to a personal blog where I can share my favorite things, and continue to shine a light on nonprofits, and cause marketing campaigns to inspire others to give as they live.
